First collage/construction experiment
This year I want to focus on the themes of collage and construction with influences from conceptual art and the Dada period. I hope to develop a body of work resulting in an installation including film, audio and collage with a construction/sculpture being most dominant.
This small box was to be a 3D proposal of the things I hope to include in my A2 work this year. I was inspired by artist Jean Michel Basquiat for his loose playful work, it gave me the idea to incorporate bright crayon colours scrawled on the side of the box to almost imitate a child like drawing.

His words 'I think don't remember" was the reasoning behind the lyrics of the small composition I put together as a backing track for the video.
"I think therefore I can't remember,close my ears, my mouth my mind, I, I can't remember"
I wanted to include words in the audio and also in the box itself. Artist and writer Robert Montgomery (see below) predominately uses words to express his art through. He says that words make people stop and think moreover an image or painting. As a keen writer myself this is something I would like to explore further this year, incorporating my own writing throughout my work.

After watching a BBC documentary on contemporary art I was introduced to British artist and musician Martin Creed. I was drawn to his piece entitled 'Half the air in a given room' in which a space was filled with balloons. These balloons were seen to be the art also for they were said to be the 'artists breath' inside.
Although I made the box prior to this discovery I still find the concept interesting for balloons are used in my box. I initially used them as a playful prop but I can now see the links to the ideas of conceptual art it might have.
Collage has always been an interest of mine, something I had begun experimenting toward the end of my AS work.
I find the practical piecing together of textiles and images can lead to more experimental, dada style work which couldn't be communicated through a drawing or photograph. I had recently been looking at artists Ray Johnson and his tactile collages, British pop artist Peter Blake's colourful compositions and paintings and one of the leading ladies in photomontage, Hannah Hoch.
This short film was the result of my first experiments, practicing the first steps of stop motion animation. I am currently working on a new video incorporating audio and more complex editing techniques to take this style of filming to the next stage.
